Wrestling is a sport that requires a great deal of both mental and physical toughness. These athletes are motivated to push themselves to higher levels and strengths, displaying a seemingly unrivaled mental toughness. Throughout his coaching career, Jay Jensen has seen his athletes display unmatched passion and desire to train, learn, and compete. They are able to maintain such a high level of focus and determination around the clock regarding diet, workouts, practice, competitions, and more.
As a wrestling coach, Jay Jensen strives to teach his athletes about perseverance, how to compete at their best and how to handle losing graciously. He wants his athletes to be proud of their wins and accomplishments while also looking to improve and learn from defeat. Through his coaching strategies, he hopes to see his athletes transfer the skills they learned during wrestling to the workplace and their personal lives. Some of these characteristics and skills include:
- Being a team player
- Getting things done
- Discipline
- Commitment
- Focus
- Drive
- Communication
- Stress management
- And beyond
Every year, his wrestling program has successfully produced great leaders both on and off the mat. These leaders include his son, who has earned many medals and recognitions including a spot on the wrestling honor roll in his local area.
